Mobile Phone Policy

Crosby Ravensworth CE Primary School is a mobile phone-free school. Children are not permitted to bring mobile phones into school.

Why we have this policy

We want every child to feel safe, to concentrate on their learning and to enjoy time with their friends. Keeping phones out of school helps us to:

  • protect children's learning and reduce distractions
  • support good behaviour and positive friendships
  • reduce the risk of online harm, including inappropriate content and messaging
  • keep playtimes active and sociable

What the policy covers

The policy applies to mobile phones and to other devices that can communicate, take photos or video, or connect to the internet. This includes smartwatches with these features, tablets and earbuds.

Contacting your child during the school day

Please do not try to contact your child during the school day. If you need to reach your child or pass on an urgent message, please contact the school office on 01931 715265 or admin@crosbyravensworth.cumbria.sch.uk. We will make sure your child receives the message. If your child needs to contact you, a member of staff will help them to use the school phone.

If a child brings a phone to school

If a child brings a phone or other prohibited device to school, a member of staff will take it and keep it safe. It will be returned to a parent or carer at the end of the day. We will talk with your child about the policy, and further steps will follow our Behaviour Policy. We will always aim to work with families to resolve this positively.

Individual circumstances

We recognise that there may be exceptional circumstances, such as a medical need or a child's special educational needs or disability. Please speak to the headteacher or your child's teacher if you think this applies to your child. Any agreed arrangement will be recorded.

Trips and residential visits

Phones are not permitted on school trips or residential visits unless the school has told you otherwise in advance.

Working together

This policy works best when school and home are consistent. We would be grateful if you would:

  • talk to your child about the policy and make sure they do not bring devices to school
  • contact the school office, rather than your child, if you need to reach them during the day
  • speak to us if you have any questions or concerns
