School Meals
School dinners and milk
We are a nut and sesame aware school. We have children with allergies in school, so we ask all families not to send in food containing nuts, sesame or their products. This includes peanut butter, chocolate spreads such as Nutella, tahini, and hummus (which often contains tahini). Please also check labels for “may contain nuts” or “may contain sesame”. Although we cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment, we take every precaution to keep our children safe. If your child has an allergy, please let the school office know so we can make sure the right plans are in place.
Meals are cooked on site by our wonderful cook Freda each day at £2.80 per child. Freda provides a changing menu of healthy, balanced meals using fresh produce, including vegetarian or gluten free options when necessary. Freda does not use nuts or sesame in school meals. The children understand the value of sourcing local ingredients, and we’re proud to have won a bronze award as a Soil Association ‘Food for Life’ school.
Payment can be made weekly or half termly in advance if you prefer; bills are sent out to parents at the start of each half term. Parents are asked to give 3 weeks’ notice if they intend to change between dinners and packed lunches. Please click the Dinner menu link to see the menus.
We also run the school milk scheme. Milk is free for Reception children until the week of their fifth birthday, and can then be bought at a subsidised rate for older children in Class 1. Free fruit is provided for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 for morning break; this is funded by the Government. Older children can bring in a healthy snack from home, which must not contain nuts or sesame.
Children who bring a packed lunch to school must commit to healthy eating and should not bring:
- Nuts, sesame, or products containing them (including peanut butter, chocolate spreads, tahini and hummus)
- izzy drinks
- Crisps
- Chocolate and sweets
- Chocolate coated biscuits
It is much easier and fairer for all the children if they stick to the same guidelines.
